Molly’s Acres is a small, environmentally sustainable farm operation on approximately 100 acres of land just outside Buckhorn, Ontario. As health conscious individuals, it was our desire to take control of our food supply. Molly’s Acres represents the opportunity for us to not only follow this dream, but also to offer quality products to the surrounding community. Our passion is growing healthy herbs, greens and vegetables using creative, leading edge (mostly aeroponic) technology - without the use of harmful pesticides, herbicides or fungicides.
ROLE DESCRIPTION
Our success has outgrown our operation and we are expanding to meet the demand we have created. We are looking for an experienced Farm Manager that shares our passion for healthy, environmentally sustainable foods, has the vision, leadership, and long term commitment to partner with us in creating something special. This is a wonderful opportunity for a resourceful, organized, independent leader who is motivated and eager to learn. The Farm Manager will need to manage and participate in all aspects of the operation. We are looking for someone with a “hands on/can do” attitude, who is an outgoing team player that enjoys working with the public.
Greenhouse Operations - Aeroponic
Plan growing schedule
Plant and monitor seedlings
Pest management
Harvest and package produce
Inventory management
All other greenhouse needs
Conventional Garden Operations
As above
Sales & Marketing
Develop short and long term strategy in partnership with owner team
Implement promotional and operational strategies
Prepare for and attend local Farmers Markets and Farm gate
Build relationships with the general public and customers
Deliver to customers (restaurants, caterers, retail stores)*
Leadership
Engage in training opportunities and share learning with team
Manage, motivate and develop staff
Communication and updates to owners
Identify opportunities / challenges and come to owners with solutions
Off / Low Season Preparation
Refine business strategy
Lead operational planning
Hire staff
Identify and apply for government grants
REQUIREMENTS :
Post secondary education in Horticulture, Agriculture, Sustainability or related fields
Practical farming experience essential (greenhouse and hydroponics is an asset)
Basic understanding of plant biology
Understanding of organic or sustainable practices an asset
Valid driver's license
